The European Union pledged to invest €11.5 billion ($13.3 billion) in South Africa to develop clean energy, transport infrastructure, and health care projects in the continent’s biggest economy.

The World Trade Organization raised its forecast for Africa’s imports growth to 11.8% from 6.5%, marking the fastest growth of any region so far this year. The forecast for Africa’s export growth also surged to 6.5% from just 0.6%.

On 3 October 2025, SARS published amendments to its tariff schedules, effective from 1 January 2026, to align South Africa’s customs duties with its commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). These changes include the substitution of various tariff subheadings in Part 1 of Schedule No. 1 and the inclusion of safeguard measures in Schedule No. 2.
