AISJ Welcomes Ten Female Student Drivers from the Commercial Transport Academy as Part of New Empowerment Initiative
Johannesburg, South Africa — The American International School of Johannesburg (AISJ) proudly announces its partnership with the Commercial Transport Academy (CTA), welcoming ten female student drivers to join AISJ as part of a groundbreaking empowerment initiative. This collaboration, made possible through efforts with the US State Department, USAID, and the American Chamber of Commerce, underscores AISJ’s commitment to inclusivity and gender equality in South Africa’s transport and logistics sectors.
This initiative aligns with AISJ’s Portrait of a Learner attributes of global connectedness and contribution, demonstrating the school’s dedication to making a positive impact beyond its campuses. By serving as a Work Host, AISJ provides these aspiring female drivers with invaluable hands-on experience and mentorship in a traditionally male-dominated industry. “AISJ is honored to support these promising young women,” said AISJ School Director Michael Schooler. “As we welcome them into our community, we’re committed to equipping them with essential skills, from time management and communication to specialized industry knowledge, helping them enter the job market with confidence and readiness.”
To formally recognize this partnership, a Memorandum of Agreement signing ceremony was held on November 20th. AISJ School Director Michael Schooler and CTA CEO Nicci Scott-Anderson signed on behalf of their organizations. The event was attended by representatives from USAID, the CTA, and the American Chamber of Commerce in South Africa (AmCham), highlighting the collaborative effort and shared commitment to empowering young women.
During their time at AISJ, the student drivers will benefit from mentorship and skills development led by staff across multiple departments. Through this hands-on engagement, the young women will gain practical experience and foundational skills, enhancing their career prospects and contributing to gender diversity within South Africa’s workforce.
This initiative reflects AISJ’s vision to nurture students and support community growth by bridging education with opportunity. As an institution committed to youth empowerment and social change, AISJ reaffirms its dedication to fostering programs that inspire professional growth, inclusion, and meaningful impact.
